Elected officials care what their constituents think. A logical, courteous letter or a personal telephone call carries weight. It can change a legislator's mind, particularly when the legislator is wavering on an issue.
It is important that your message be written as effectively as possible. Here are a few pointers for writing to your legislator. REMEMBER: Always use your personal email account when writing to your representative. Never use your school email!

To keep our Kansas public schools open to educate all children and to support our profession, we all must VOTE in every election!

KNEA members formed the Kansas Political Action Committee (KPAC) to help elect pro-education candidates to offices in Kansas government. From the statehouse to the local school board, politicians are making decisions that affect quality public schools, the teaching profession, and the well-being of our members.
Click here to see the candidates vetted and recommended by KNEA. These candidates are chosen for their stances on public education issues.
Contributing to KPAC is completely voluntary. NO MEA or KNEA dues are used for political contributions. Membership in MEA does NOT mean that you automatically “opt-in” to NEA political activities. NEA has its own separate and voluntary mechanism for political contributions. Candidate recommendations and KPAC donations are non-partisan; KPAC will recommend the best candidates for Kansas public education regardless of party affiliation. In Kansas, public schools are under constant attack by special interest groups who lobby to influence instruction and restrict our ability to do what we know best - teach our students.
